Our pets need some loving too! Jan. 7th, 2010 @ 07:18 pm

Now that druid forms have gotten a big makeover, orc and troll shammies have their own totem designs, and hunters can tame shiny new animals, do you think Blizz should give warlock pets a little art design loving?

I was just looking at them today and they really do look as dated as the druid forms did.

Just picked up my copy of the WOW official magazine in the mail. 140 pages of lovely. A bunch of interviews, amazing artwork/pictures.. I don't regret spending the money, especially if there's three more of these coming this year.

As for an in-game thing... when the hell did they add a flight path at the Bulwark? Just noticed o_o

(also! mutilate a good leveling spec for a rogue? http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Stormrage&n=Bohemien is the armory, with clearly not enough hierlooms >_> )

Minus 14c last night! And colder tonight. Jan. 7th, 2010 @ 09:42 pm
[info]frostfox
That's 7f.
And as I defrost the car at 6:45 am, diamonds of frost sparking in the frigid air. Cold, cold, cold!
I have brought out the cat loo for his nibs, I hope he appreciates this, cat litter is hard to get hold of, people are using it as grit.
Supposed to get even colder at the weekend, with the wind picking up.

There was a lone coot and her chick on the brook, poor little bugger won't last long in this cold.

More photos under the cut, pretty much the same as yesterday, fabulous light, more frost and the brook is freezing over. I'd love to go further afield but I chucked out my wellies about a year ago (I hadn't worn them since the early 1980's) and it's too bad underfoot. I bet the canal looks fab, it's only 150 yards but the pavements haven't been gritted and are icy, so maybe not.

Coronation.... Jan. 7th, 2010 @ 09:05 pm
[info]maryf
Well, we're all set to head off to Coronation tomorrow, despite the snow and ice! I'm working from home in the morning, and [info]caomhinmaca has the day off. I have to do 4 hrs work, but at least being at home means I can't get dragged in to any last minute meetings which go on for half the afternoon. We're hoping to leave at 12:30, and pick up [info]purplemermaid from Winchester, so long as she manages to get a train. I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that enough people manage to get there to make it a good event.....

Thinking ahead on the dungeon finder. Jan. 7th, 2010 @ 03:57 pm
[info]rufushonkeriv, posting in [info]worldofwarcraft
I was thinking about how it will be when Cataclysm hits.

Remember when Outland and Northrend each opened up? No one knew where the instances were and they had to hunt their way there. That won't be the case this time, people could practically sit in a capital city and level using dungeons. Good? Bad? I dunno, just interesting.

I hope Blizzard puts in a reason to visit the entrances of dungeons - it would be kind of sad to go through an entire expansion and never REALLY know where the entrance to [instance] is. Maybe if you'd have to go and touch the meeting stone to attune for the dungeon in the finder.

Any other thoughts on how this will affect things after an expansion launch, when everyone's leveling and not at level cap yet?

I'm tired about all the cracks about the tank not needing Arcane Brilliance. Have you ever taken a moment to think about what goes into a good Taunt? Sure, you can insult someone in your own species without pausing to think--but can you make him so angry that he forgets the the pain of that fireball he just took? Can you do it in a different language? To a different species? To things that aren't even flesh, or alive? Go into a warrior's home and look for the shelf of thick books. Those are the texts from his Taunt class. They're continuously updated to keep up with new species and cultural trends affecting what insults sting the most.

It's mostly rote memorization, of course. The top lines for each race are kept current by representatives of each one's tanking classes. For nonsapient species there are research tanks who'll go into the wilderness and imitate the sounds that creatures make to each other until they find one that provokes an instant attack. Undead and demons are brought into special laboratories where calibrated chains measure which insults produce the strongest attempts to break out. Then the results are written down and young fighters chant phrases in unison until they get them right.

Slimes are the worst. Sure, it sounds like a burp to you, but we've spent weeks at a time practicing to get that enunciation just right. And no priest ever puts Pain Suppression on your vocal cords.

It's not just a phrasebook, though. Draconic is easy to pronounce and we've got dozens of different lines to throw at them. The hard part is using the right one. Dragonkin and whelps are part of a rigidly ranked society with true dragons at the top. You have to match the taunt to their social status to truly hit home. Tanks spend long hours watching their instructors pop up portraits of dragonkin until they can peg their rank from any angle. This gets easier as you go up the hierarchy. With Sartharion you only have to quote his adds back at him.

Anybody with a match can set things on fire. Making a demon forget about that tasty warlock he's about to bite into--that takes brains.

I stopped playing back in March and I feel like I've missed a TON of stuff. I mean, I wasn't so computer savvy to begin with, but now that I want to go back to playing, I feel like I'll be super lost, not to mention my guild has broken up (at least as far as I can tell) and none of my old friends seem to be findable. :( It just really sucks because half the people in my guild I knew in real life (and even one that I didn't know volunteered to pay my membership when I lost my job!), I wan an officer in my guild, we had people in a wide range of levels and we all knew eachother.

What I'm getting at is, how do I find that old dynamic that I had in the game again?
I miss that.

Also, anything super awesome or super lame happen that may effect a 79 hunter? :)

Shared Suffering HoR Jan. 7th, 2010 @ 12:59 pm
[info]parakletos, posting in [info]worldofwarcraft
According to Wowhead

Shared Suffering - Inflicts 4,000 Shadow damage every 3 seconds for 12 seconds. If dispelled, splits the remaining damage equally between all players. Magic effect.

Just did HoR and two players got hit single high level damage; one for 16k and one for 12.5K. Is this a bug, a recount error, or have things changed?

To Demo or not to Demo? Jan. 7th, 2010 @ 02:52 am
[info]worldmage, posting in [info]worldofwarcraft
I'm coming back to WoW after a bit of a hiatus, so I've been toying with the idea of levelling up my long-neglected warlock who was actually the first toon I made on WoW all those years ago. I've done a bit of research on the forums (*shudder*) about what the specs are like now.

I must admit I'm intrigued by Demo. I can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe it's the same thing I see in Boomkins: they've been so useless in endgame for so long and it's fun to see how they've grown into viability. Maybe it's just that I like being a (semi-)passive raid buff. Plus there's that whole occasionally-turning-into-a-demonic-engine-of-death awesomeness.

So I guess now I'm looking for some experiences of Demo locks. How is it for levelling (my lock is currently 71)? Is it as fun in raids as it looks on paper? Are there any particular stupids I need to look out for both in myself and others? Any and all experiences, tips, and such are greatly appreciated. :)

(EDIT: Just to be clear, by "Demo", I mean Demonology.)

Train only 7 mins late at home. However, brakes have failed just one stop away. We're hoping for a tow if they can a unit to us. So near and yet so far! Tell you what though: on a train this full you'd think it would be warmer. My toes are freezing!

Apparently those of you back in the UK have been suffering some extreme weather conditions. All that snow and ice. I can sympathise because here in Mauritius it has been debilitatingly hot and sunny. Almost unpleasantly boiling. But luckily mainly pleasantly boiling.
Today I tried to walk barefoot from my room to the loungers that my girlfriend had procured by the pool.

How have other Resto shammies been feeling about raiding lately? Are they even still around? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my Shammy. She's a beast, but I've been noticing recently that I'm feeling more...gimped than usual when it comes to raid healing. When a fight description starts with "everyone needs to spread out a lot", I die a little inside. Of course, I don't rely solely on Chain Heal, but I'm really not like having an entire quarter of my healing rotation rendered useless because of fight mechanics. Shammies are AoE healers, and I just can't heal as effectively using LHW spam. I'm also seriously hindered in fights that require a lot of movement as my only spell I can cast while on the move is Riptide with its 6-sec cooldown. I've been giving some thought to retiring my Shaman and gearing out my priest for Disc. If I can't heal, I'd rather not raid at all.

Any other resto shammies notice the same thing as I, or am I just being silly?
