Snuggling down on the sofa with Max to watch Gigi, not my favourite musical but 'twill do and it looks luscious. It was one of the few albums I had as a little girl before I developed my own record collection. And it has one of my favourite songs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sISWPzEqHLQ Maurice Chevalier and Hermione Gingold, what's not to love? I adore the Gingold's/Merman's/Rutherford's of the screen.
Avocado and cottage cheese for lunch, I think.

I hope everyone's having a lovely Christmas, that those of you with The Ill are recovering and that everyone's had at least one really good present!
Merry Christmas, friends! |

Just had fresh OJ and croissants at Annie-WNLJ's new house and we will open presents here soon. The girls are now 19 and 21, David is 25... I remember when the girls were little, lying in bed with Annie listening to the whispers as they crept to the bottom of their beds to see what Father Christmas had put in their stockings.
Hope you are all having as much fun as we are, wherever you are and whatever you celebrate.

Well, my body seems to refuse to believe it's holiday and I was wide awake at 5:40am this morning, which is my usual getting up time on a work day. Still I forced myself to stay in bed and read until 7:30am. Now it's 11:15am, and we've had a good breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast, plus coffee, and opened lots of presents, with help from Pixie, whilst Jazz sulked on the futon in the conservatory. She did have a mad tear round with a ball of christmas paper, but Pixie ran in to her full tilt so she retreated to the safety of the futon. I got lots of good presents, including a gorgeous piece of sequin embroidered silk which will make a wonderful evening top or dress from lewis_p_bear and djelibeybi_meg, and a most interesting looking book from an old friend Z, which is a translation of a book on world costume written by an Italian gentleman in 1590 (this is the book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clothing-Renaissance-World-Americas-Vecellios/dp/0500514267/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1261740388&sr=8-1). The book looks fascinating, and full of good research material. I also had a gorgeous silver bracelet from caomhinmaca, amongst other things, and a good slate frame for embroidery, although it's so heavy I won't be able to use it until I can get a floor stand for it. |

Today I am feeling thankful for christmas....or more specifically for memories of past Christmases with richardrampant & gythanorth, lewis_p_bear & kateaw, and sometimes purplemermaid, frostfox and others, in Birmingham, and then in Scotland. gythanorth was really fun to spend Christmas with, and she got really excited about present opening, regardless of what the present was. She also really cared about the other people around her, and always looked after me far better than I look after myself, making sure that there was non-dairy and non-wheat alternatives for food and drink, so that I could feel like I had the same as everyone else without feeling ill. I still really miss her at Christmas, but I'm glad I had the chance to spend some Christmases with her and everyone else, especially at a time just after my mother died and my marriage broke up when I really needed friends. |

Quote for the Day The Earth reminded us of a Christmas tree ornament hanging in the blackness of space. As we got farther and farther away it diminished in size. Finally it shrank to the size of a marble, the most beautiful marble you can imagine. James Irwin

Well, today I think i am very thankful for having a warm and comfortable home. I've been sitting most of the day trying to finish off the last Christmas presents I'm making (nothing like leaving it until the last minute!), so I was really glad the house was comfortable, and that the central heating was working properly. This morning I really enjoyed sitting in the conservatory (my favourite room) and looking out at all the snow, whilst eating my breakfast. This house isn't perfect, and probably is not what I would have chosen if I could have afforded something slightly bigger and more cottagy, but at least it's mine - well, mainly the building society's, but mine as long as I keep paying the mortgage! I feel more at home here than I have in many of previous houses, and I really do not want to move again. It's the 9th house I've lived in since I left my childhood home 25 years ago, and I think I'm finally settled. The neighbours are all friendly and the fact that the garden is totally overlooked on all sides doesn't really bother me, and the cul-de-sac it's in is very quiet which is good. AFter 3 years here, I've almost finished decorating as well.....just the dining area and caomhinmaca's room to do. |

Hmm, it appears that I may have to spend boxing day afternoon in Liverpool and be at a bit of a loose end from 3.30pm until at least 6pm.
It's a long shot, but I don't suppose there's anyone up that way, that perhaps might be watching Hamlet, that I could pop by and visit? ;) |

Quote for the Day Christmas Eve was a night of song that wrapped itself about you like a shawl. But it warmed more than your body. It warmed your heart... filled it, too, with melody that would last forever Bess Streeter Aldrich
Thank you to kathyh for the e-card. Very fitting given the weather we've had for the past week. I _loved_ the bone-shaped present Santa gave the dog.
And to gillo whose Christmas card arrived today. Yes today! \0/\0/\0/
To everyone travelling to visit relatives, or heading off for a holiday, take care, stay warm, and have a Merry Christmas.
